Nigeria’s number one Men’s Singles Badminton player, Anuoluwapo Opeyori secured victory at the Mutual Benefits National Badminton Championship’s fourth edition held in Lagos.
The President of the Badminton Federation of Nigeria (BFN), Mr. Francis Orbih, reiterated the federation’s unwavering commitment to promoting badminton at all levels, emphasizing a focus on grassroots development.

Orbih, speaking at the closing ceremony of the championship, expressed appreciation to the event’s sponsors, Mutual Benefits Assurance PLC and GIG Group, acknowledging them as steadfast supporters of badminton in Nigeria.
He emphasized the federation’s determination to elevate the sport, particularly at the grassroots level.
The championship’s overall turnout was lauded by Orbih, describing it as quite impressive, with players demonstrating high morale and commendable quality of play.
During the closing ceremony, the Executive Director, Technical, Mutual Benefits Assurance PLC, presented Anuoluwapo Opeyori with Personnel Accident Insurance worth N5 million, covering injuries, medical expenses, permanent disability, and even death.
In the Men’s Singles Final, Anuoluwapo Opeyori triumphed over Victor Ikechukwu (Rivers) with a score of 22–20, 19–21, 21–17, securing his victory and marking his success in three out of the four editions of the championship.

The Men’s Doubles Final witnessed a rematch between Lagos and Rivers States, with Anuoluwapo Opeyori and Daniel Christopher emerging victorious over Victor Ikechukwu and Emmanuel Joseph at 14–21, 21–19, 21–18.
Additionally, the Women’s Singles Final featured an all-Edo State affair, as Ruth Ebere defeated Deborah Ukeh 21–16, 21–19, claiming the championship’s fourth edition.
In the Women’s Doubles Final, Grace Gabriel & Ramatu Yakubu (FCT) secured victory against Sofiat Obanisola & Zainab Alabi (Rivers) with a score of 21–16, 23–21.
The Mixed Doubles category saw Babatunde Ayomide & Adekunle Oluwaferanmi (Kwara) emerging as winners, defeating Usman Qudus & Tiamiyu Salawat (Oyo) at 17–21, 21–18, 22–20.
The championship fostered a spirit of oneness and friendship, with players reconnecting after extended periods of absence.
