Beyond Limits Football Academy’s player, Promise Meliga has described his team’s victory in the Creative Championship Cup as a “blessing in disguise.”
The thrilling final saw Beyond Limits FA clinch the title for the first time after a dramatic penalty shootout win against Sporting Lagos.
Speaking with Sports 247 after the match, Meliga expressed his surprise and joy over the victory.
“Today’s victory is a blessing in disguise. We didn’t expect it. After they equalized the goal, we didn’t expect to win the game anymore.
Because we have already fought. We have been waiting to win it for four years now. But God later did it for us and we got the victory. We are very happy,” he said.
When asked who he dedicates the victory to, Meliga’s response embraced the collective effort behind the win. “My team, my family, my loved ones. Everyone, I am so happy,” he said.
Meliga emphasized that his primary target for the season was team success rather than personal accolades. “The target was to win the tournament. And it’s come to pass, we won it. We won everything this season. That’s the target.
I was not hoping to win anything. I didn’t put it in my mind to win any award. I just wanted to play for the team. It’s not all about me. It’s all about the team. So we worked and we got what we wanted.”
As a young player, Meliga has clear aspirations and looks up to certain role models in the sport. He shared his future goals and inspirations: “Yeah. I don’t know if many people would know him. He’s Chidera Ejuke. I’m looking forward to being like him, to move to the nearest future and be better.”
Beyond Limits FA’s victory marks a significant milestone for the academy, as they not only secured the Creative Championship League title for the fourth consecutive time but also finally added the Creative Championship Cup to their trophy cabinet.
The team’s journey and triumph are a testament to their perseverance and collective spirit, setting a high bar for future seasons.
