Chairman Ante International Football Club of Ipaja, Ante Sunday has appealed to the organizers not to take their match to Epe in the forthcoming BETWGB/Lagos State Challenge Cup.
The biggest annual football competition would kick off in the next two weeks across designated centers in the state.
While chatting with sports247.ng, Sunday described Epe center a long journey from the teams based in Alimosho noted that before the team arrrive the match venue, the players and coaching crew would have been tired or possibly late for their game which might result to walkover.
“We are among the rooky matches and most of the rooky matches play in Epe. We are using this medium to beg organisers to consider teams based in Alimosho, Agege and Ikeja because many of us always have problems of getting to Epe.
“We played one of our matches in Epe last year and before we got to Epe, it was a tug of war.If organisers and sponsor consider teams from far place the better for competition. No club owner or coach wants to be walkover and if they play it and beat them, it is understandable so organisers should look into this before the draws,”he said.
Commenting on the team’s preparation, coach of Ante, Augustine Ojezuanbi said top friendly matches have been lined up to keep his boys fit ahead of the competition and assured his fans the team are in good shape and ready to go far in the tournament.
We always reach third round in Lagos FA Cup but this year we want to reach round of 16 and if we can go beyond that, it is good for the image of the club.In terms of our preparation, we are good to go,” he said.
