The Ekiti State Governor, Dr. John Kayode Fayemi has reassured sports-loving people in Ekiti state that his administration will continue to do everything to make sports a viable tool for development.
Fayemi who recently signed into law, the Ekiti State Sports Development Trust Fund (SDTF) Bill, which seeks to promote sports, attract sponsorship, and be an employment generating sector for youth hinted in his new year address that his government will continue to work more on supporting Public Private Partnership as a tool in sports development.
“The bill on sports development fund that I recently signed into law and establishment of the state lotteries commission were both informed by this realization”
He lamented that the sports sector has not been doing well in the years past but efforts from different bodies have shown things can be better in the sporting world for Ekiti.
“The sports sector in Ekiti has doldrums but I can report that things are beginning to look up again, here again”
Fayemi further harped on the state’s determination to return to the summit of sports by winning laurels at the forthcoming National sports festival in Edo state.
To demonstrate the Fayemi-led administration’s new resolve to lend support to sports at the grassroots, 30 million Naira has been set aside for the upgrade of the Oluyemi Kayode Stadium, Ado Ekiti in the 2021 budget for Ekiti state.
Also, 15.2 million Naira will be used for the construction of a multipurpose sports hall in the stadium, while 16 million Naira has been earmarked for National youth tournaments for the year.
