…AS THINGS DEY FC LIFTS TROPHY
The maiden edition of the Bayelsa Bet9ja Super League has ended in style, at the Samson Siasia Sports Complex, in Yenagoa, as Things Dey FC, became the first ever winner of the competition in Bayelsa State.
Things Dey FC of Yenagoa, emerge winners of the tournament on Sunday, defeating their opponent, Glory Team Six, 4-2 on penalties, after an entertaining and intriguing ninety minutes goalless draw.
From the blast of the whistle, Glory Team Six, who went into the finals with over 25 goals in four games, looked more like the better team, creating goal scoring chances, but not converting them, with Ade Amusan, Okardi Inukorugha being the culprits.
Their opponent, later settled into the game, and also had several begging opportunities, as midfield magician, Bob Philip, took charge to mesmerize the danger area in many occasions, however, him and his teammates failed to find the back of the net.
Former teammates became foes, as Things Dey FC’s playmaker, Bob Philip, and Defensive Midfield marshal, Ekene Amadi, of Glory Team Six, contended with each other to dictate the game, but it was the Bayelsa United player, Bob, that had more fun with the ball, all to no avail.
At the end of the barren draw ninety minutes, Glory Team Six players, Ekene Amadi, and Zuzu Benjamin lost their kicks, while four players of Things Dey FC, found the back of the net, to triumph 4-2 on penalties.
In his remarks, Master Super Agent, Mr. Chibuike Aligo, was full of gratitude to the coordinating team of the competition, assuring that the 2020 edition, will be better organised than the first one, as he promised to pay one year tuition fees for Nigeria’s youngest gold medalist, Deborah Quickpen, who was present at the occasion as a Special Guest.
Mr. Chibuike Aligo expressed his delight with the massive support and turnout from spectators, at the first point of call of the competition, adding that the tournament sponsored by the leading betting company in Nigeria, Bet9ja Super League, has come to stay in Bayelsa.
Also speaking, Bet9ja Representative, Mr. Daniel Gbadamosi, and Chairman, Ijaw Youth Council, IYC, Central Zone, Mr. Kennedy Olorogun, commended the youths for their active participation, and ensuring no violence or misconduct of any sort was witnessed in the entirety of the competition, while the Coordinator of the tournament, Ada Gwegwe, commended the officials of Bet9ja, for deeming it feet to bring the tournament to Bayelsa state.
At the end of the competition which had a total of 32 teams, taken part on the maiden edition of the Bet9ja Super league in Bayelsa, Ijaw United finished as the third best team, after their walk over against Gillet FC, who couldn’t turn up for the match due to certain circumstances, while, Inikurogha Okardi of Glory Team Six, scooped the highest goal scorer award, after netting 11 goals in the competition.
Other awards include, Best Goal Keeper, Raphael, (Things Dey FC), Best Coach, John Akosubo (Things Dey FC), Most Valuable Player, Wisdom Magbisa (Things Dey FC), and Best Behaved Team, which went to Blessed Diamond FC.
