Lisbon FC Abraka Lone strike in the first half has all but halted KG Sports Agbor dream of advancing to the Super 8. The Pride of Agbor who won the team of the week after their back to back wins in Week 1 and 2 failed to soar past Lisbon at the Agbor Center on Wednesday early Kick off.
Playing without their coach, who was suspended indefinitely by the Bet9ja-DFA State League Management for an adjudged Assault on a center referee, One of the most senior Player Kester Omashor took charge and it was obvious his selection of players lacked cohesion when a mis up between the new signings, center back Destiny Uwezukwe Goalkeeper Idowu Okonta fumbled the ball only for Lisbon Striker to pounce and fire home.
By the time KG Sports Academy settled in the second half, fluffed chances characterised their dominant position as they couldn’t find the net and went down 1-0.
Results from other matches saw KG retained their 4th position with 6 points behind leaders Young Shall Grow of Asaba who defeated Ihuyase 1-0 on Tuesday while Akila FC 3-0 victory over Red Dragons put them in second place with 10 points, 1 point above KG Sports.
Although KG Sports Academy are still.in the race for the top 2 to qualify for the Super 8, but the defeat put them is very tight corner considering they still have to play all three teams above them. A win in all three matches could still see them go through.
KG Director Dr Ken Gadaffi blamed the defeat on the disorganisation in the team following the suspension of the Coach and the rush to acquire new players before the Transfer window is closed
“The result is the climax of a terrible week for us, it all started with the suspension of the coach (Lansana Dukaray) which affected our programs because he was banned from all DFA activities hence he couldn’t attend training and we had to upgrade one of our senior players to coach the team hoping the ban will be lifted, inbetween this we were rushing to sign 5 new players before the transfer window is closed and we only got the paperwork done on the eve of the match so their was really no cohesion going into the match” The Director spoke from his Base in Cambodia.
Dr Ken Gadaffi who is also the Technical Consultant with ISI DSC FC in the Cambodia Premier League still believe that his team will bounce back and make the Super 8 “Hope is not lost, we still have it in our hands, 4 games to go and we can bounce back, the good thing is we are playing against our rivals, even though we may no longer be favourites to go through we will give it a fight” he stated.
KG Sports Academy will face Red Dragons of Asaba on Thursday 23rd March at the Agbor Township Stadium
