The 2024 Access Bank Lagos City Marathon took place on Saturday, February 10th, with participants competing in both the 10km and 42km races.
The 10km race commenced from Lekki and concluded at the Eko Atlantic City in Victoria Island, while the 42km race started at the National Stadium in Surulere and also ended at the Eko Atlantic City.

In the men’s category, Bernard Sang of Kenya emerged triumphant, crossing the finish line with a remarkable time of 2 hours, 16 minutes, and 48 seconds.
He was closely followed by Silas Cheprot and Geoffrey Birgen, also from Kenya, who secured the second and third positions, respectively.
On the women’s side, Kebene Chala of Ethiopia demonstrated exceptional performance, clinching the top spot with a time of 2 hours, 41 minutes, and 1 second.
Margaret Agai and Cherop Sharon Temtal from Kenya secured the second and third positions, respectively.
Notably, Bernard Sang claimed victory against a field of approximately 80 elite marathoners, earning him the grand prize of $50,000.
Sang’s previous success includes a third-place finish at the 2023 Lagos City Marathon.
Simon Cheprot and Edwin Kiptoo, who finished second and third in the men’s category, received cash prizes of $40,000 and $30,000, respectively.
Meanwhile, 25-year-old Kebene Chala from Ethiopia seized the top position in the women’s category, also earning a substantial cash prize of $50,000.
Additionally, Shehu Muazu emerged as the first Nigerian to cross the finish line, earning him a noteworthy cash prize of N1 million.
