Former Super Eagles striker, Benedict Akwuegbu has disclosed that he is banking on a combination of efforts from the players and motivation by top shots of Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to see the squad through as the Super Eagles’ camp opens at the start of next week for two crucial matches in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

Sports247 reports that the Eagles will first play away to Rwanda next Friday, March 21st in Kigali, after which they will host Zimbabwe four days later in Uyo, and Akwuegbu disclosed that he is optimistic for victories in both matches.
He specifically mentioned what he referred to as energetic leadership acumen of NFF president, Alhaji Ibrahim Gusau, being a pillar behind the players, then pinpointed the skills of Victor Osimhen and Ademola Lookman as propelling forces that could swing results in Nigeria’s favour.
“I am optimistic, because Ibrahim Gusau, the NFF president, has been doing very well, and he has been running round the clock to see that the team qualifies for the World Cup. With the players on ground, like Osimhen and Lookman, we have the potentials to take us to the World Cup. So, I am very optimistic,” Akwuegbu enthused
