Nigeria male and female teams have qualified for the next round of the u-21 word championship coming up at Cape verde, in March.
This follows the teams’ success at the just concluded U21 CAVB Beach Volleyball Qualifiers Cup in Ghana.
In the female category, Nigeria won the first match against Benin Republic by 2-0 at 21/17,21-19 and lost the second match to the host 0-2 at 17/12,16/ 21 to qualify.
The male team lost its first match against Niger Republic 0-2 at 16/21,19/21 but the players regained their confidence and skills going all out in the second match beating Benin Republic 2-0 at 21/13, 21/14 to also qualify.
Speaking with journalists after the tournament, the Coach of the team, Kayode Ajilore said though his players’ performances are not too impressive attributing it to inexperience.
“one most important problem that contributed to the unimpressive outing is the lack of proper exposure to the natural beach environment, the heavy wind and heavy beach sand the players were not exposed to”,Coach Ajilore emphasized.
He however assured Nigerians of doing the nation proud in the next stage having worked on the lapses discovered.
He appreciated the president of the Nigeria volleyball federation, Musa Nimrod and other stakeholders for their supports in achieving the modest results
The players who are visibly excited for the qualification apologised for the performance promising to work harder in their preparations for the next stage in Cape Verde
Reacting,the President of the Nigeria Volleyball federation, Musa Nimrod congratulated the teams and official for the feat promising that all machineries will be put in place to ensure a successful outing at the next stage in March,2019 at Cape Verde.
The team and officials are expected to return to Nigeria on Sunday 24th of March,2019.
