Bayern Munich have announced the signing of Nigerian youngster Daniel Francis on a three-year contract from FC Hearts Abuja, Sports247.ng reports.
Francis, 18, will spend the 2022/23 season on loan at Austrian Bundesliga side Austria Klagenfurt where he would get his introduction into professional football.
Jochen Sauer, the FC Bayern Academy director said of the signing of the talented midfielder: “Daniel came to the fore during his time in the FC Bayern World Squad and really stood out in the friendly matches.
“He attracted interest from other clubs, so we’re pleased to have signed him and that he’ll now be able to gain match experience at Austria Klagenfurt.”
Francis featured for Nigeria in the 2019 FIFA U-17 World Cup in Brazil where he appeared once. He was the captain of the Bayern World Squad 2022.
The FC Bayern World Squad project is an initiative aimed at promoting talented youth players from around the world and giving them the chance to move one step closer to fulfilling their dream of becoming professional footballers.
Speaking after the confirmation of the deal, Francis said: “I start by giving thanks to God for making my dream a reality.
“Thanks to everyone who worked so hard to help me get to this point of becoming a professional footballer. God will reward your efforts and faith in me.
“I promise to keep working hard on and off the pitch to become a better player and a person.”
