Bayelsa United suffered a 1-0 defeat against Abia Warriors in the NPFL. Despite the loss, Coach Meremu Okara remains hopeful about the team’s future performances.
Okara expressed his disappointment with the result, stating, “The result didn’t reflect the game per se because I think the better side lost the game.” He attributed the loss to a momentary lapse in concentration and a defensive error that led to the only goal of the match.
“The only chance they had they scored is sad for us. I pity the boys after playing so well, they still lost the game. It was just a 1 minute loss of concentration,” he explained. He also pointed out that the team had many scoring opportunities but failed to capitalize on them.
Looking ahead, Okara emphasized the need for victories. “We have played two games. We have not won any, lost one, drew one. Apart from winning, nothing else. We just have to. Just have to win,” he stated. He also expressed determination to win their upcoming match against Rivers United.
This match serves as a learning experience for Bayelsa United. With their focus on improving their defensive line and capitalizing on scoring opportunities, they are determined to come back stronger in their upcoming matches.
