Bayelsa State government says it will embark on rehabilitation of the Samson Siasia Stadium, Yenagoa before the commencement of the 2021/2021 football season in the country.
The state deputy governor, Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo dropped the hint when he paid a visit to players and officials of Bayelsa United and Bayelsa Queens ahead of this year’s Aiteo Cup final.
Governor Douye Diri represented by the State Deputy Governor Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo said since the prosperity administration assumed office, Bayelsa State has taken her place among the leading sports states in the country.
Senator Ewhrudjakpo explained that team Bayelsa exploits at the 20th National Sports Festival in Benin City, Edo was an indication that the state was ready to invest in the development of sports, asserting that with sports youths would be engaged meaningfully in the society.
He noted that the government was proud of the display of both clubs in the 2021 Aiteo Cup where both sides will be playing in the final on Sunday against Fc Robo and Nasarawa United, stating that he was optimistic that the two-state own clubs would return home with the trophy.
He expressed optimism that with the financial support is given to Bayelsa United, the Prosperity Boys would return to Nigeria Professional Football League, NPFL, at the end of the current NNL campaign with few games to go.
The deputy governor asserted that the government would soon embark on a serious revamping of the Samson Siasia Stadium in order to enable the facility to host international games.
The number two man in the state opined that the state was not unaware of the importance of an improved dressing room, convenience, and stadium, stressing that the state would make buses available for the teams to execute their games before the new season commences.
Earlier, Bayelsa State First lady, Mrs. Gloria Diri visited Bayelsa Queens training to cheer the Glory girls ahead of the final.
Bayelsa United will lock horns with Nasarawa United in the final of the men’s AITEO Cup while Bayelsa Queens confronts FC Robo Queens of Lagos in the women’s category with both games scheduled for Sunday, August 8, 2021, at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin City.
