Bayelsa State Director Of Sports Confident Of Young Athletes Success In Ilorin

The Bayelsa State Director of Sports, Sir Bravemen Wodi has expressed hope on the ability of the State’s ninety-six athletes to win laurels at this year’s National Youth Games Competition when the event kicks off at the University of Ilorin, Kwara State this weekend.

The Season Sports Administrator made this known on Wednesday afternoon during an interaction with the Journalist on team Bayelsa’s readiness for the national event at Ilorin.

Sir Wodi who reacted on last Sunday numerous challenges that almost led to the postponement of the sporting event after the early arrival of five states team contingent were faced with accommodation crisis, confirmed to newsmen that team Bayelsa had overcome accommodation and other logistics challenges that compelled the organizer of the National Youth Games to rescheduled the competition calendar of events by two days interval.

The Former Chairman of Bayelsa United further mentioned that team Bayelsa athletes are in good health condition and will perform excellently well to demonstrate Governor Douye Diri dream of Making Bayelsa State a Mecca of Nigeria Sports.

The Kolokuma Opokuma Born Administrator added that the Bayelsa State contingent made up of ninety-six athletes and fifty-six Officials including secretaries, Coaches, Administrators, and Security Personnel are focused on the task ahead of the team and will display the resilient spirit of the Ijaw ethnicity in Canoeing and rowing, swimming wrestling, Chess and Kung-fu-fu sports games which are relatively comparative advantage sports where the team will secure several Gold medals in the course of the competition.

Head Coach of Bayelsa State Kung-fu -wushu team, Tony Tuayerin who came to the national Youth Games with Four athletes stated that his athletes are in Ilorin to clinch all four Gold medals in two categories of the Kung-fu -wushu contest.

Head Coach of the State Deaf team, Mr. Andrew Lucky who also join faith with his Kung-fu wushu counterpart on team Bayelsa Chances of winning medals at the National Youth Games told Journalists, that he is confident his twelve athletes who are in Ilorin for the competition will work hard to make the State proud in various field events.

The Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Sunday Dare is expected to formally declare the 2021 National Youth game open on Friday 15th, October this year.
