Chairman of the reigning Nigeria Women Premier league champions Mr Robin Apreala says Bayelsa Queens will rewrite the story of Nigeria teams in the CAF Women Champions League in Morocco next month.
The Prosperity girls trounced Ghanaian side Ampem Darkoa Fc 3- 0 in the final in Cote D’Ivoire to clinch the west African ticket to the biggest women football showpiece in Africa.
Mr Apreala in an interview said their target going to Morocco was to win the CAF Women Champions League and also becoming the first Nigerian side to win the trophy having failed participate in the first edition.
He noted that their experience in Cote D’Ivoire was indicative of what the team intend to achieve in the showpiece, pointing out that the performance of the girls was soul lifting to Bayelsans and the Nation.
Mr Apreala pointed out that Bayelsa Queens triumph in WAFU-B tournament has shown that the Prosperity girls NWFL emergence was no fluke,adding that the state could not have been better blessed than having Bayelsa Queens representing Nigeria.
The soft-spoken administrator praised Governor Douye Diri and his deputy Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, saying that Prosperity administration never wavered their support for sports in the state as a tool for peace, development, and wealth creation.
He asserted that Bayelsa Queens in the last two and half years has become the most admired female club side in Nigeria due to governor’s undying commitment towards to the development of sports in Bayelsa.
The former Bayelsa United secretary equally thanked the commissioner for Youths and Sports Development, Hon Daniel Igali for the fatherly role he has played for the team and Bayelsa sports at large,noting that the sector has never had it so good.
“The governor has been at the vanguard of the quest for the state deserving nothing but the best and he continues to manifest it in all spheres. He has proven to be a man of action and performance and we are indeed proud to be part of his success story in sports.
“As of today, Bayelsa is the only state in Nigeria that is making wave in sports not only football, sports in Nigeria is not complete without Bayelsa.No state in Nigeria has achieved more than Bayelsa and it goes to show that the governor is a man with the miracle wand”.
He commended the technical crew and players for the show of dexterity throughout the tournament urging them not to rest on their oars till they conquer the continent.
