Bayelsa Kid’s Cup Edition Seven: Nembe LGA Emerge Champions

The 7th edition of the Bayelsa Kids Cup climaxed in a grand style at the main bowl of the Samson Siasia Sports Complex in Yenagoa, in the presence of dignitaries and football spectators who trooped in in their numbers to catch a glimpse of the action.

Nembe local government area defeated their opponents, Yenagoa local government area two goals to nil to win the 2024 edition.

Two goals in each half was enough to separate both sides, in the pulsating finals tht saw the young lads expressing determination to showcase themselves despite the minor downpour.

The tournament kicked of on Saturday 18th May at the Bishop Dimieri Grammar School premises with seven teams, except for Brass LGA that opted out few hours to the tourney.

After the preliminary round, four teams booked their semi final spot, Nembe, Ekeremor, Yenagoa, and Sagbama LGAs. However, at the semi final games, Yenagoa played out a one all draw against Sagbama at regulation time, but saw off the westerners 8-7 in a frenzy penalty shootout, while Nembe spanked Ekeremor with three unreplied goals.

At the grand finale played on Monday, May 27th to commemorate Children’s Day, Sagbama defeated Ekeremor by two goals to nil in the losers final, while Nembe clinched the trophy in style.

Coordinator of the competition, Coach Ada Gwegwe, expressed his gratitude to the sponsors for their assistance, and thanked the dignitaries for honoring the event with their presence.

Stanley Concord of Nembe LGA went home with the Highest Goal Scorer award with 6goals, Best Goalkeeper went to Collins Precious of Sagbama LGA, while the Most Valuable Player of the tournament was Richard Felix of Nembe LGA.

Other individual awards were Most Skillful Player – Esueni Akali of Southern Ijaw, Youngest Player Dominion Frank of Ekeremor, Best Defender – Bassey Destiny, Yenagoa LGA, and the Best Referee – Bethel Paradise, who officiated the losers final and the finals.

Dignitaries at the event included House of Assembly Member, Hon Wisdom Fafi, former Speaker of he Bayelsa State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Tonye Isenah PhD, Director of Sports, Sir Braveman Wodi, former Sports Commissioner, Hon. Ebikitin Diongoli, South South Vice Presi6Youth Sports Federation of Nigeria, Mr Kali Gwegwe, and former Senior Special Assistant on Religious Affairs, Rev Vincent McDowell.

Others are the Director General Prosperity Cup, Mr Ono Akpe, Tournament Director, Mr Perela Aboro, Deputy Director General, Deacon Emmanuel Appah, CEO Official CitiBoy Concept, Mr Joshua Igere Glory, and Ex-internationals, who were unveiled as the Chief Scouts for the Prosperity Cup, Mr Peter Neketien and Mr Kelvin Etemike.
