Bayelsa Government Pledges Commitment To Building Modern Sports Facilities, including a 25,000-Seat FIFA-Approved Stadium

The Bayelsa State Government has reaffirmed its dedication to enhancing the state’s sports infrastructure, with plans for a state-of-the-art, 25,000-seat FIFA-approved stadium set to begin soon.

Honourable Daniel Igali, the Commissioner for Sports Development in the state, shared these ambitious plans during an interview on Silverbird Rhythm 94.7 FM’s Viewpoint program over the weekend.

Igali highlighted that the new stadium will serve as a multi-purpose venue not only for football but also for various sports, including basketball, badminton, and tennis.

The facility will feature modern amenities such as a swimming pool, and will be fully accessible, with provisions for people with disabilities.

“This stadium will be one of the most modern in the country, designed to host international competitions and events that Bayelsans can be proud of,” Igali said.

“We are looking at a space that will promote unity, public health, and provide opportunities for talent discovery and economic growth.”

The Commissioner further assured that the project would be completed within the tenure of Governor Douye Diri, citing the governor’s proactive approach in ensuring that projects receive necessary funding.

Igali emphasized that the current government is not just about policy-making but also about turning plans into reality, a commitment that extends to other sporting facilities around the state.

In addition to the stadium, the Bayelsa State Government is currently undertaking several sports projects, including new basketball courts for the renowned St. Jude’s Girls Secondary School, Bishop Dimeari Grammar School, and other schools.

Plans are also underway for facilities at Ijaw National Academy, Asoama, and other locations across the state.

With the Governor’s dedication and a clear vision for the future of sports in Bayelsa, these initiatives are set to transform the sporting landscape of the state and provide local athletes with the resources to thrive
