Baxter: We want to make our fans happy

South Africa gaffer Stuart Baxter has reiterated the need to pick three points against Nigeria to make their fans happy.

Matchday5 of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations will see the two teams go head to head at the FNB Stadium on Saturday.

The Super Eagles are on top of Group E with nine points from four games, one ahead of second place South Africa, who defeated them 2-0 on matchday1.

Bafana Bafana have registered four clean sheets in four outings thus far, while the team’s attack have amassed eight goals.

This record will once again come under threat when they take on Group E rivals Nigeria in a top-of-the-table clash at FNB Stadium on Saturday at 2pm Nigerian Time.

“We aren’t bothered about their preparation. We don’t want them to dictate the game too much,” he said at a Press briefing attended by Sport247.ng.

“We want to break them up and hit them hard. If they want to be a little cagey, we have a plan for them. We want to take a lot of chances that we can. We are at home, we don’t know what will happen in the future.

“We have picked up a lot of injuries and don’t want to take chances. Our destiny is in our hands, especially with the last group game coming up against Libya.

With the Super Eagles having been promised $25,000 for each goal scored, Baxter is by no means going to let that intimidate his but the major focus is making South Africans smile on Saturday.

“When I started playing football and even now as a coach, money has never been my God. It’s nice to have money.”

“I don’t feel better rewarded if someone gives me extra million. The reward I get is if I see the faces of people, see them happy and also the players in good mood.”

“The whole South Africa is going through tough times. Big Companies are cutting back. We can’t pay that sought of money. Money is not an issue with us. We want the three points and make our people happy,” he added.
