The inaugural edition of the Coach Aliyu Zubairu U13 Kiddies Tournament concluded in grand style on Saturday, January 11, 2025, as Barca Kiddies emerged champions with a thrilling 2-0 victory over Dickalo Boys FA in the final match.
Held at a packed venue, the game delivered excitement and drama. Second-half goals from Ibrahim Asukuti and Jimoh Fawaz secured the trophy for Barca Kiddies, hailing from Eiyenkorin in Asa Local Government Area of Kwara State.
Dickalo Boys FA dominated the first half with relentless attacks, including a missed penalty by Ahmad Kewugbemi, whose effort struck the upright. They also hit the woodwork twice, but luck eluded them, leaving the first half goalless.
The second half brought heightened intensity and breathtaking moments, keeping fans on edge. Against the run of play, Ibrahim Asukuti broke the deadlock with a brilliant solo effort, dribbling past two defenders before curling the ball into the net. As the game neared its conclusion, Jimoh Fawaz capitalized on a rebound to double Barca Kiddies’ lead, sealing the victory.
The tournament, organized in honor of Coach Aliyu Zubairu, also featured a presentation of awards for outstanding players and officials, cash prizes, and commemorative medals. Distinguished attendees included the Executive Chairman of Kwara State Sports Commission, Coach Bola, Director of Sports Mallam Ibrahim Bako, and other top officials and stakeholders in the football community.
Earlier in the day, Future Stars FA clinched third place with a stunning 4-3 comeback victory over Kingshood FC, setting the tone for a memorable final.
The event highlighted the immense admiration for Coach Aliyu Zubairu, who provided jerseys for all eight quarterfinalist teams and celebrated the tournament’s success alongside the enthusiastic crowd.
