Banyana Banyana of South Africa captain, Janine Van Wyk has admitted that her side need a fresh boost of motivation and energy for them to beat Nigeria in Saturday’s Africa Women Cup of Nations final.
The Banyana skipper acknowledged that they were fully motivated and fresh in their opening match against the Nigerians, which sports247.ng recalls they surprisingly won 1-0 in Group B, but admitted it could be a different kettle of fish in the final.
Van Wyk noted that fatigue could play a key role in determining which way the pendulum will swing at Accra Sports Centre, but submitted with a verdict that victory would eventually go SA’s way for the first time in the history of the competition.
She reckoned that, having already qualified for the first time to the FIFA Women World Cup for the first time as well from this competition in Ghana, her side need to take just one more step forward to complete the circle and shock Nigeria for the second time in same number of weeks.
Van Wyk stressed: “In the first game we beat Nigeria in the group stage but we were motivated and had fresh legs and fresh minds.
“I’m not saying we are not motivated now but both teams have played numerous games in the tournament.
“So, it’s 90 minutes of pushing through. It’s not going to be an easy game for both teams, and it’s for either team to lift the trophy on Saturday.”
