Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) of Ibadan general manager, Rasheed Balogun has accused Nigeria Football Federation of giving preferential treatment to the top-flight league, ahead of the lower division.
Speaking in reaction to an order by the emergency committee of the NFF that the Nigeria National League (NNL) Super-8 play-off should go ahead this Wednesday in Aba, Balogun told sports247.ng that it is a case of bias for one body against another.
The NFF emergency committee mandated all eight clubs to report in Aba for the competition, which will go ahead with any of them that turns up while the absentees will face punitive measures.
However, Balogun further stated that the difference in tiers of league in Nigeria should not undermine the importance of a division, nor should it make one inferior to another.
Balogun argued that cordial interaction is needed among all tiers of the league to ensure smooth promotion and demotion of teams from one tier to another.
He stressed: “Giving credence to one league above the other is a case of bias and an aberration.
“What we are seeing now is total disregard to the NNL, because the NFF is making it to appear as if the second tier league has no say in the matter.
“But, the truth is, even the NPFL is not independent of the NNL as they supply teams to the NNL just the way NNL supply teams to the NPFL.”
