The Badminton Federation of Nigeria (BFN) set the stage for next month’s Lagos International Badminton Classics with their grand event, Shuttle Symphony, held at the Civic Centre in Victoria Island.

Led by choirmaster Francis Orbih, the BFN orchestrated a new melody, captivating the audience of corporate organizations supportive of badminton.
Adding a touch of royalty to the occasion, Alhaji Abubakar Ibn Umar Suleiman, Mai Bade and Emir of Gashua, graced the event with his presence. Corporate badminton-friendly organizations attended the event, and the aviation industry’s ValueJet contributed gift items that further enhanced the celebration.
Obi Asika, a creative industry entrepreneur known for his involvement in the popular family television program ‘Nigerian Idol,’ brought vibrancy to the event by sharing the success story of badminton in Nigeria.
The face of success in Nigerian badminton, Anuoluwapo Opeyori, Africa’s number one men’s player, captivated the packed hall with his inspiring grass-to-grace journey. Obiageli Solaja, a BFN board member and recipient of the 2019 Africa Woman in Badminton award, expressed her optimism about the federation’s progress, stating, “Indeed, the graph is looking upward.”
The event was attended by prominent supporters of the sport, representing corporate bodies committed to promoting badminton in Nigeria. Sola Aiyepeku, Chairman of the Lagos State Sports Commission, represented the Lagos State Government.
Traditional supporters such as Mutual Benefit Assurance, Studio 24, Avis, and GIG Group were present, along with representatives from EKEDC, G.E.N, Bond Energy, Inlaks Limited, Lagos State Badminton Association, Lagos Country Club, and the badminton section of Ikoyi Club.
Insurers and bankers, including Sovereign Trust and Wema Bank, attended the event, along with representatives from The Road Users organization. Nkechi Obi, a celebrated sports marketing expert and chairperson of the Nigerian women’s football league, pledged her support for badminton during the gathering.
A significant highlight of the evening was the presentation of recognition awards to supporters, ambassadors, past presidents, and sponsors who have played vital roles in advancing the sport.
The Shuttle Symphony event showcased the BFN’s dedication to elevating badminton in Nigeria and served as a prelude to the upcoming Lagos International Badminton Classics.
With the backing of corporate organizations and the support of influential figures, Nigerian badminton aims to continue its upward trajectory and achieve greater success in the sport. The BFN’s commitment to nurturing talent and fostering partnerships underscores its ambition to raise the profile of badminton on both national and international stages.
