Badminton Coach Praises Outing At Schools Championship

The coach of Nigeria’s team to the recent African Secondary Schools Badminton Championship, Tajudeen Suleiman has praised his players for putting up a solid performance.

 

 

Sports247.ng can report that Suleiman was happy that his team emerged champion of the 2018 edition of the championship in Tema, Ghana.

 

Among the nine players that represented Nigeria were Rufai Saddam Sidi, Daniel Christopher Egbonyi, Khalil Safana Shamsuddeen, Umar Ahmad Balarabe and Bankole Babatunde Timileyin in the male category.

Obanishola Sofiat Arinola, Obasanmi Christianah Olajumoke, Taofik Ganiyat Romoke and Mosun Shogbade were in the female category.

In the boys’ final, Government Day Technical College defeated Ecole Academy 3-0, after Balarabe beat Agnimel Akpa Jerome 21-7, 21-5 in the first game.

Babatunde defeated Ouedraogo Ousmane 21-6, 21-7 in the second tie and the final game saw Egbonyi sink Diatta Abdul Assane 21-6, 21-6.

In the girls’ final, Fiwasaye Girls Grammar School defeated Jim Fouche High School of South Africa 3-0.

Obanishola beat De Beer Megan 19-21, 21-15 21-15, Obasanmi sank Kemp Rianette 21-02, 21-15 and Romoke defeated Naude Nadine 21-17, 21-13.

Speaking after, Suleiman said the players were all happy with their feat and assured that they will all do well when they graduate to the senior category.

He added that even those among his players that did not play in the final all contributed immensely to the win.

Suleiman retorted: “This victory is a good one for the Nigerian team. All the players contributed to the win and I hope they will go on to do well in future.”
