Ani made this comments after his team, Straightway played 2-2 with Potential FC in their fourth matches which held Monday morning at the VDC Army Barrack, Volks bus stop, along Badagry Expressway.
Straightway have two points in their four matches on the table and they are eliminated from the group stage following the draw they got against their opponents this morning.
Ani who was bittered and angry with the lackadaisical attitude of his players during the match told our correspondent that his players let him down admitted that their qualification is not guaranteed even if they win their last match.
“This is an embarrassing moment in my coaching career because my players let down. We cannot win a single match in our group. I thought we would win today’s match and do everything to win our last match unfortunately my boys lost this game by themselves.
“The most painful aspect of if was that we got a penalty during the match and my player with his lackadaisical attitude lost the kick. Like I said before, my players let me down and I am disappointed in most of these players because they did not play to instructions,” he said.
Ani announced that the team would be overhauled soonest while only the good players would be retained in the team. He said the club would soon organise open football trials so that good players would be selected at the end of the day.
“Having seen the team performance in the league and there is need for the management to overhaul the team. We cannot continue playing like this unless we would become a weaker team among teams in Badagry and Lagos at large.
“If we play four matches and we cannot win a single match, it shows that the team need total overhauling before it gets worse. The only way forward now is to fix a date and find a conducive venue for our open trials to see how we can inject new players to the club,” he concluded.
In another development, a match between Leads United and Franky Best at the same venue was abandoned after the center referee ruled out a goal scored by Leads United as a result of the foul the scorer committed against Franky Best goalie.
The referee’s decision did not go down well with Leads United coaching crew saying that they would discontinue the match until referee reverses his decision.
After asking Leads United players to continue and refused to come to the field of play, the center referee signalled the end of the game. The ugly incident occurred in the 87th minutes and the score line was 1-0 in favour of Franky Best FA.
Reacting to this ugly scenario, the disciplinary committee of BDFA headed by Dauda Usman has summoned the representatives of the two teams, the match official and centre coordinator to appear before the committee on Tuesday morning for further hearing.
