Veteran Nigerian tennis player, Abdulmumini Babalola has confessed that he is still eager to play the game at the highest level and would not mind starring for the country again in the Davis Cup.
Speaking against the backdrop of eulogies coming his way from fellow-Nigerian star, Sylvester Emmanuel, Babalola told sports247.ng that he will consider representing Nigeria once more.
Babalola, who Emmanuel described as an inspiration and mentor to young tennis players in the country, said he would love to play in the Davis Cup group 3 tournament as Nigeria’s captain.
His words came after Emmanuel rained more superlatives on the star he recently stood toe-to-toe with in a Nationwide League Cup match on Center Court.
Emmanuel said he respects the veteran and urged him to continue as Nigeria’s Davis Cup captain.
In response, Babalola, who has been a member of Nigeria’s team since 2002 and is one of only two Nigerian’s with level ITF coaching badge, said he is ready to give it one more shot as a player.
“I will like to play at least one more time in the Davis Cup for Nigeria,” said Babalola. “I know that my experience is still vital to the younger, but also very talented players.”
