Nigerian tennis veteran, Abdulmumuni Babalolahas has floored the country’s chances of doing well in the Davis Cup next year, as he fears the players will struggle on clay surface against their opponents.
Sports247.ng can report that Babalola is wary of what lies in store for the Nigerian team, and is worried that they will fall short in the event.
Babalola went on to express doubts over their division II promotion chances, which he told sports247.ng could be hampered during the thick of the competition next year.
The dark-skinned tennis ace pondered: “We may not be able to do well in the Davis Cup next year, because the country does not have enough clay specialists to stand a chance.
“Nigeria Tennis Federation needs to expose more of our players to competitive matches on clay ahead of the Davis Cup.
“Should they fail to do that, we risk losing out on promotion. I am sure our chances would be limited, should the tournament hold on clay.”
