Azubuike Thanks Amapakabo For U-23 Invitation

Caykur Rizespor of Turkey midfielder, Azubuike Okechukwu says he is honoured with the invitation handed him by Olympic Eagles coach, Imama Amapakabo to join the squad for their Africa U-23 Cup of Nations qualifier against Libya.

While stating delight with his recall to the under-23, which he captained before they went on to win bronze at the last Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, sports247.ng reports that ‘Azu’ has also promised to give total commitment to Amapakabo’s new squad.

Although Super Eagles’ captain, John Mikel Obi moved in as an over-aged player and captained the under-23 team to bronze in Rio, Azubike never showed any malice with the ‘senior’ player taking his band, and he now appears to have been rewarded with another call to the new squad due to his calm attitude.

Azubuike (born April 19, 1997), who is still within the under-23 bracket, despite having played in the same category four years ago, confirmed that he has officially been invited by Amapakabo and disclosed that he will turn up in Tunisia two days before the game against Libya.

He disclosed: “I have received invitation from the Nigeria Football Federation to join the U23 national team for the match against Libya.
“I will join the team in Tunisia on March 18. I will also put in my usual best to help the team win the match if I am fielded in the match.
“I am also using thus medium to show my appreciation to the coach for counting me worthy of being in the team.”
