Awoniyi Moves Three Goals Short Of Best Goals’ Tally

Royal Exel Mouscron of Belgium striker, Taiwo Awoniyi moved just three goals short of his best season tally of nine, as he hit home his sixth goal of the campaign on Friday.

 

Sports247.ng reports that Awoniyi’s last hit on bull’s eye came in a 1-1 draw with Standard Liege, which saw him net in four straight games and seven overall since his return to Mouscron, after spending the first half of the season struggling for form at their Belgian top-flight league rivals, KAA Gent.

 

Although Mouscron stay 10th on the Belgian First Division A log with 36 points from 28 matches, Awoniyi is close to equaling his best league goals haul, which he set during his tenure with the same club in the 2017/2018 season.

 

The 21-year-old scored UAE 2013 FIFA U-17 World Cup gold medalist netted his fourth successive goal in the ongoing campaign at Stade Maurice Dufrasne seven minutes after Liege went ahead.

 

Incidentally, Awoniyi, who had been cleared to feature in Friday’s match barely three days earlier by Belgium’s football disciplinary body, which gave him a suspended sentence for depicting a religious message while celebrating his fifth goal of the season the previous weekend.
