Former youth international, Taiwo Awoniyi could be on his way back to Royal Exdfel Mouiscron of Belgium, despite being declared surplus to requirements by their top division rivals, KAA Gent.
Sports247.ng gathered that, after Awoniyi’s parent club, Liverpool of England terminated his loan deal with Gent, the striker is now on the cards of a possible return to the team has twinkled with last season.
This much has been confirmed by Mouscron’s technical director, Paul Allaerts, who says his team would gladly welcome back Awoniyi, who previously enjoyed loan spells at FSV Frankfurt of Germany and NEC Nijmegen of Holland.
Awoniyi signed a new long-term deal with Liverpool before heading to Gent last summer, but failed to score in 16 appearances and they have already agreed to terminate his contract by mutual consent.
Dramatically, during the previous season at Mouscron, Awoniyi had his feet in 17 goals from 31 appearances, which Allaerts is the reason why they are again in his services this month.
Allaerts explained: ”We have always been interested in him, even last summer, and we proposed him to extend his adventure in Mouscron, but he opted for Gent, which I can understand.
“There is a good chance that Taiwo will leave Ghent in the coming days. We have always kept in contact with him after his departure.
“We are very interested in getting him back but, before that can happen, he must first get rid of his contract. ”
