KAA Gent of Belgium striker, Taiwo Awoniyi is direly in search of a revival at the top-flight club, as his impact has dwindled considerably after an initial spark at the start of the season.

Awoniyi has been on loan from Liverpool of England since erupting into the spotlight at UAE 2013 FIFA U-17 World Cup, but his initial ascent to relevance at Mouscron appears to have faded all too soon.
Such is the penumbra surrounding the Imperial Football Academy of Odogbolu, Ogun State product that observers across Europe have rated him among the big flops of the first half of the season in Belgium.
A leading Belgian soccer review rated Awoniyi low and noted that he is facing a massive downturn from the heroics he unleashed just last season at Mouscron.
His form of the past campaign attracted interest from Club Brugge and RSC Anderlecht, but Awoniyi opted for Gent, who have a long and strong history with Nigerian players.
However, the 21-year-old former youth international is now yet to score in 16 league appearances for Gent, such that his value is now at an all-time low.
A review of the highly-promising star’s impact with Gent read in part: “The biggest disappointment is Taiwo Awoniyi.
“Gent won the battle of other top clubs to loan the 21-year-old striker from Liverpool, after the Nigerian performed strongly at Mouscron last season; but everything Awoniyi has tried at Gent seems doomed to fail.”
