AWCON2022: Gift Monday A Perfect Fit For Super Falcons, Randy Waldrum Declares

The Super Falcons are on the verge of winning a 10th straight AFCON title if they can overcome the challenges at the 14th edition of the tournament to be played in Morocco.

The tournament which will kick start July 2nd will be played through to July 23rd as an African champion will not only emerge but the continent’s representative at the World Cup next year will also emerge.

In a quest to achieve both feats, Super Falcons coach, Randy Waldrum picked 25 players that will wear the green and white colours in Morocco as the team chases a historic moment for the nation.

While speaking to NFF TV shortly before departing for Rabat, Morocco the host city of the Super Falcons, Waldrum declared that he has picked the best players to do the job at the tournament.

“We have selected the best from what we had to choose from. The good thing is that we have got a good staff that has been working diligently to ensure we have the best legs for this event and we are confident that is going to happen.”

On the attackers in the squad, Waldrum emphasized that they are the very best and heaped praises on NWFL star, Gift Monday.

“Yh, over the last year, we have found some new blood, Ifeoma (Onumunu), Esther unfortunately she is injured, young players like Vivian (Ikechukwu) that we brought into the team playing extremely well so we feel we have got lots of good options.”

“Gift Monday is superb in the professional league here (in Nigeria), a young player who is playing extremely well and we also have Asisat (Oshoala) back healthy, that is a big plus and I’m excited about Macleans (Chinonyerem) and we will also have players who can interchange, Rasheedat and Payne from midfield so I think we really do have a massive attacking line and overall I am happy with that.”

Gift Monday scored nine goals in five Super Six matches and was named the 2022 NWFL top scorer with 12 goals, Man-of –The-Match award of the finals and Player of The Tournament on the NWFL Super Six final day.
