Super Falcons right-back, Josephine Chukwunonye has confessed that this year’s African Women Cup of Nations (AWCON 2018) was the toughest the Nigerian team has faced since inception.
Though the Falcons won the 11th edition on Saturday, Chukwunonye noted in a chat with sports247.ng that losing their first match against South Africa and still needing penalties’ shootout to beat the same team in the final showed that it was really tough for the Nigerians.
It was the first time the Falcons had to go through that route to win the biennial championship, and Chukwunonye admitted Banyana Banyana gave the Nigerians a huge scare.
“The South Africans have improved massively and the Super Falcons had to struggle to win the title this time.
“It means we need to work more to win in Africa next time. It is also a warning for us to step up our efforts in order to do well at the World Cup next year,” Chukwunonye concluded.
