Austel Elumelu Criticizes Board’s Inaction on Super Eagles Coach Appointment

Barrister Austel Elumelu, a former member of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Technical and Development Committee, has criticized the current NFF board for their perceived lack of proactive action in appointing a new coach for the Super Eagles.

Elumelu, drawing from his experience on the committee, expressed his disappointment with the board’s handling of the coaching situation.

During a recent interview, Elumelu compared the present situation to his tenure on the technical committee, highlighting the regular meetings and collaborative discussions that were commonplace.

He emphasized the importance of decisive action, particularly in selecting a new coach for the national team.

“When we were on the technical committee, both Sani Lulu and Maigari, you know we are always having meetings, always rubbing minds.

We were given the chance for the formulation of support policies and appointment of coaches,” He stated.

He cautioned against experimentation with coaching appointments, stressing the need for coaches with proven records.

Elumelu mentioned established figures like Mourinho as examples of coaches with noteworthy achievements.

“People must have their records. And for instance now, if you say you are looking for a coach and you mention Mourinho, he has his record.

People will say employ him. There are other coaches like that,” He remarked.

Despite acknowledging financial constraints as a challenge, Elumelu urged the NFF to prioritize the appointment of a substantive coach without delay.

His critique underscores concerns within the Nigerian football community regarding the lack of decisive action from the NFF board.

Football enthusiasts eagerly await the board’s response to these calls for proactive measures in the selection of the next Super Eagles coach.
