AUDIO: My Mandate With Super Eagles Is Over; Charges Players To Work Harder For AFCON 2025 Ticket – Eguavoen

Super Eagles interim coach, Augustine Eguavoen has served a strong hint that he may not be in charge for the team’s next match, as his mandate with the squad is over, sports247.ng reports.

Eguavoen stated as much in the wake of Tuesday’s goalless draw away to Rwanda, stressing that what he had was a mandate of only two matches in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

Although he remains the technical director of Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Eguavoen stated further that he may not be in charge of the Eagles for their next match, because no discussion has been held with him in that regard.

The former national team defender disclosed at length, “I was given a mandate to handle two games. I want to say I was very pleased with the boys.

“Thanks too to the NFF leadership and the fans. All the boys supported me. They gave me 100% in terms of discipline and working hard, but it ends today.

“It’s been two games’ mandate. So, I can’t talk about the next game against Libya, because I’ve not been told anything about an extension.”

Eguavoen, though, went on to give assurances that he would readily support anyone who gets the Eagles’ next mantle and promised that he will provide useful tips on how to floor Libya in November.

“However, in case we have another coach, I can talk with him about Libya a little bit. We can sit down together, and I can then provide an inside story on how we can overcome Libya.

“It’s important to know that no team is a pushover. But, with the spirit these boys have exhibited and what I have seen, I think we have a bright future,” Eguavoen enthused.

He concluded with an analysis of the team’s struggles in front of goal against Rwanda on Tuesday and reasoned that the players need to be clinical next time out.

“I tell the boys, ‘When you are in the box, you are the boss, you are the lord.’ Any little touch can attract a penalty.

“But, again, you can’t really blame them; it can happen on football. This is something we need to improve on.

“With the chances we get in front of goal, we should be scoring at least three goals in every game. We must work on that,” the former Eagles’ captain affirmed.

It’s now left to be seen when thd NFF would give Eguavoen an extension of his latest interim mandate with the Super Eagles, of maybe his fourth tenure in charge of the team has indeed come to an end.
