Nigeria athlete Blessing Okagbare secured qualification for the 200m race of Tokyo 2020 Olympics and 2019 World Athletics Championship with an impressive third-place finish at the Nanjing World Challenge on Tuesday.
Okagbare who spent most of last year in the treatment room finished the 200m race with a Season Best time of 22.58s despite competing against Olympics champion, Elaine Thompson and Asian champion Salwa Eid Naser.
Elaine won the race finishing in 22.40s – with Naser in second place with a Lifetime Best of 22.56s in the race which took place at the Eastern Chinese City.
The Nigerian women sprints record holder had earlier ran a season-best record of 11.07 seconds in the 100m on Saturday to also meet the IAAF qualification standards for the 100m of both international competitions.
Tokyo is hosts of the 2020 Summer Olympics games, while the 2019 IAAF World Championship will be held in Doha, Qatar from 28 September to 6 October.
