Arewa Sports Personality Awards Association (ASPAA) have rolled out plans for its maiden sports personality awards.
Activities to mark ASPA2018 awards include a public lecture titled “Sports development in Northern Nigeria; the journey so far” to be presented by Professor Musa Garba (A.A) of the Department of Physical and Health Education, Bayero University Kano which will hold at Kano State Polytechnic on Saturday, 8th December 2018 commencing at 9 pm.
Awards will be presented to 30 outstanding sporting personalities from Northern Nigeria at a ceremony, which will take place at Bristol Palace Hotel, Farm Centre, Kano State starting at 8pm on Saturday 8th December, 2018.
The activities will wrap up with a novelty match, during which a team of Celebrities, Veteran Athletes and officials tagged “Arewa All Stars” will lock horns with a Kano selected side at the Sani Abacha stadium commencing 4pm on Sunday, 9th December 2018.
The Arewa Sports Personality Awards serves as a cohesive tool that unites sports stakeholders and promotes sporting activities within Northern Nigeria.
Over 300 important guests are expected to attend the various activities lined up, which hopefully will be a very special event on the sports calendar of Northern Nigeria.
A 10-person committee made up of representatives from SWAN from the three Northern geopolitical zones have worked closely with the staff of the ASPAA secretariat to compile a shortlist from nominations received in various categories for voting awards.

Sports journalist of the year (Radio)
Sports journalist of the year (TV)
Coach of the year
NPFL player of the year
NWPL player of the year
Sports official of the year
Young sports person of the year
Polo player of the year
Ball Sports Personality of the year
Athletics personality of the year
Combat Sports Personality of the year
Parasports Personality of the year
Traditional sports personality of the year
ASPAA will also recognize outstanding sports personalities in the following categories:
Sports loving Governor of the year
Life time achievement awards
Sports Administrator of the year
Award for contribution to grass root sports development
Honorary Award for outstanding performance in sports
