Olympique Lyonnais Féminin have been the crowned the champions of the 2022 UEFA Women’s Champions League after they defeated Super Falcons striker Asisat Oshoala and her Barcelona Femini side in Turin on Saturday night.
First half goals by Amandine Chantal, María Pilar León, Catarina Macario and a late consolidation in the dead minute of the first 45 minutes by Alexia Putellas were enough to hand the defending champions a 3-1 defeat at the Allianz Stadium.
Oshoala played the second 45minutes of the encounter but her efforts were not enough to help her team restore the disparity against the now eight-time winners.
The defeat handed Barça Femení’s second loss to the French club in final in the space of three years. Lyonnais Féminin thrashed Barca Femini 4-1 in the 2019 Budapest final of the UEFA Women’s Champions League.
Oshoala has been impressive for the Barcelona female side this season clinching the highest goal-scorer award in the Women’s Spanish Primera Division despite being on the sideline for almost three months due to injuries.
