Asisat Oshoala, the talented Super Falcons and Barcelona striker, has received a nomination for the prestigious 2023 Ballon d’Or award.

The announcement of her nomination was made on France Football’s official Twitter handle, as they revealed the names of the contenders for various categories of the esteemed award.
Asisat Oshoala has been nominated for the Socrates Award category, which recognizes exceptional acts of solidarity performed by players. This particular award was introduced last year and is named in honor of the late Brazilian football legend, Socrates. Alongside Oshoala, four other individuals have been shortlisted for this esteemed accolade.
The other contenders for the Socrates Award include Vinicius from Brazil and Real Madrid, Antonio Rudiger from Germany and Real Madrid, Marcus Rashford from England and Manchester United, and Alex Morgan from the United States, representing San Diego Wave.
While Oshoala’s nomination brings well-deserved recognition to her outstanding achievements, football enthusiasts eagerly await the unveiling of the nominees for the men’s, women’s, Yachine Trophy, and Kopa Trophy categories of the Ballon d’Or award. The announcement for these categories is scheduled for September 6, building anticipation for the unveiling of the final nominees
and the highly anticipated awards ceremony.

Widely regarded as one of the greatest African female footballers of all time and one of the best in the world she is one of the most celebrated African female footballers of all time, and she won African Women’s Footballer of the Year a record five times.
In September 2014, Oshoala was made a Member of the Order of the Niger by President of Nigeria Goodluck Jonathan. In 2021, she was named in the Forbes 30 Under 30. She is popularly called “Àgba Baller”, which means in her local palance, “Legendary Footballer”.
