ASABA 2024: Young Weightlifter Sam Deminire Wants To Uplift His Family Through Success In His Favourite Sport

A 12-year-old weightlifter from Lagos State, Deminire Sam has disclosed that he aims to do well in the lifters’ sport in order to help his family stabilise in future.

He stated as much during an interview with sports247.ng at Stephen Keshi Stadium in Asaba, where he is competition in the 49kg class of the National Youth Games’ boys weightlifting competition.

The youngster confessed that he is amazed with his team’s performance at the Games, as they hardly had enough time to train before heading to the Delta State capital.

Deminire told sports247.ng in an exclusive chat, “I don’t know how to describe my experience at this competition. I am 12 years old, but I lifted 50kg in clean and jerk as well as 42kg in snatch.

“We had only a few days of training, but we came here with a lot of hope.”

He then spoke about his personal targets in the sport and how he aspires to become a great lifter in order to turn his family’s situation around.

“Weightlifting is something that I want to do continuously, and when I am older, I want to represent Nigeria.

“I started doing weightlifting last year, and I want to use it to help my family. I also want government to help my family,” Deminire appealed.
