Kogi State’s Joseph Victor and Sezuo Ize triumphed in the Cadet Table Tennis Mixed Doubles event at the 2024 National Youth Games in Asaba, securing a historic gold medal for their state.
In a thrilling final match, the talented pair outclassed Delta State’s Joseph Marvellous and Rapu Peace, who settled for silver. Meanwhile, the bronze medals were jointly awarded to the teams from Lagos and Anambra states.

The competition saw remarkable talent from young athletes, with Lagos State’s Adeoye Hussein and Rabiu Aishat, as well as Anambra State’s Ezeofor Chukwugozim and Nnamani Chisom, putting up commendable performances to share the bronze podium.
In a gripping final, Joseph Victor and Sezuo Ize showcased exceptional skill and teamwork to overcome their Delta State counterparts.
The match was marked by intense rallies and strategic play, with both teams fighting fiercely for every point. However, the Kogi State duo ultimately emerged victorious, drawing cheers from their supporters.
Reflecting on their win, Joseph Victor expressed his excitement in an interview with Sports247, saying, “It is unbelievable, but we made it. I’m so happy for this gold.”
His partner, Sezuo Ize, echoed the sentiment, adding, “We came here believing that something great would happen. We weren’t sure if it would be gold, but in the end, it was. I’m proud to represent Kogi State.”
The victory means a lot to the athletes and their state. Joseph Victor noted, “Winning this gold puts Kogi State on the map in table tennis, and it’s a motivation for young athletes back home. I hope this inspires more youth to take up the sport and believe in their potential.”
Sezuo Ize shared similar sentiments, expressing pride in their hard work and dedication. “We’ve worked hard for this, and seeing it pay off is amazing. I’m proud to be from Kogi State, and this gold is for everyone who supported us along the way.”
Looking ahead, both athletes are determined to continue their training and aim for higher achievements. “We’ll keep training hard and aiming higher. This is just the beginning,” said Joseph Victor. Sezuo Ize added, “We want to represent Nigeria internationally and keep growing as athletes.”
