ASABA 2024: Team Lagos Shines With Multiple Medals as Swimming, Weightlifting Stars Emerge

As the 2024 National Youth Games in Asaba enters its third day, Team Lagos is making waves with impressive performances across various sports.

In swimming, Chioma Kanu, Sokunbi Tobi, and Ezumba Chidelu delivered standout performances.

Kanu clinched a gold medal in the 50 meters freestyle for girls, while Tobi also secured gold in the 200 meters individual medley for boys.

Chidelu earned a silver in the 100 meters for boys. These victories boosted Lagos’s medal tally to four in swimming, with the final day of the aquatic events set to take place at the Stephen Keshi Stadium’s swimming pool on Sunday.

In weightlifting, Sunday Emmanuel added a bronze medal to Lagos’ haul with a total lift of 111kg.

Competing in the 49kg category, Emmanuel achieved a 50kg lift in snatch and a 61kg lift in clean and jerk.

Expressing his gratitude, Emmanuel credited his success to his mother, who is a coach, and to weightlifting icons such as African and Commonwealth Champion Adijat Olarinoye.

He was thrilled with his performance in what was his debut at the National Youth Games.

The Lagos female football team continued their impressive form with a 2-0 victory over the hosts, Delta State, at St. Patrick’s College in Asaba.

Goals from Kashimawo Temilola and Kemi Adegbuyi secured the win, reinforcing the Eko girls’ position as strong contenders as they aim to defend their title in the football event.

In volleyball, Lagos emerged victorious against Bauchi with a 2-0 win (25-20, 25-20).

Additionally, in table tennis, Aisha Rabiu and Faisat Musbau of Team Lagos triumphed in the girls’ doubles final, defeating their opponents from Delta State.

Overall, Team Lagos is showcasing strong performances across multiple sports, underlining their competitive edge at the 2024 National Youth Games.
