Delta State lifter, Elechi Jude has confessed that he was scared before he eventually won three gold medals in 49kg class weightlifting at the ongoing 8th National Youth Games in Asaba
Elechi added that he was happy with how he was able to pull himself together to end the contest tops of all; with 55kg in snatch as well as 70kg for clean and jerk plus total.
He told sports247.ng after his feat that he had to put in a lot of effort to overcome his tough rival, but admitted he had not set any pre-tournament target for himself.
“I did not set a target for myself before coming here, but I won tgree gold medals in the 49 class group A and group B.
“These gold medals mean a lot to me. I will now try to go further with the senior team, but I will still participate here next year in a higher class.
“That’s my target now,” said the youngster, whose haul of medals helped extend the host state’s lead on the overall log after just three days of events at Stephen Keshi Stadium in Asaba.
“I was initially scared, because there was one tough guy who was competing with me.
“But, in spite of his tough challenge and after everything, I still won three gold medals. To God be the glory,” Elechi concluded
