A young female swimmer from Cross River State, Gift Obeten has chosen an unusual style of gratitude by thanking everyone in Asaba, Delta State after she emerged as a double-silver medalist in both 50m and 100m metres breaststroke at the ongoing 8th National Youth Games.
Rather than see herself as second best in both events, the lass with a sing-song voice told sports247.ng that she was grateful for her achievement and equally thanked God for making it possible.
Obeten stated with delight, “I thank you all for everything. Thank you for your support and for making this possible.
“I also thank God for helping me. I am from Cross River State and a breastroker. I thank God for the second position that I took in two events here.”
Obeten went on to explain why she was so grateful and excited, as she reasoned philosophically that it would not have been possible without divine support and intervention guiding her.
“Glory be to God. It’s not by my power nor by my strength, but God did it for me. I just thank God and everyone for helping me.
“It means a lot to me, because this is what I always wanted … to be a champion. It means a lot to me, my family and Cross River State.
“I just thank Cross River State for fetching me out to come and be a champion for them and helping me get ready for the world.”
The highly emotional swimmer concluded by revealing what she would henceforth do to ensure that she keeps on growing and excelling as the days go by.
“I must have a bigger dream and aim to achieve more. If I train harder and work more than this, I know I will make it.
“That’s why I will do my best, train harder and try to do more than this next time. I want to do better in both breaststroke 50m and 200m,” Obeten assured.
