This move signifies a new chapter in Quadri’s illustrious career as he takes his talents to Saudi Arabia to represent the Khaleej Table Tennis Club.
Quadri, who has achieved remarkable success in the sport of table tennis, previously plied his trade in Portugal, Germany, and the Russian leagues.
However, the allure of Saudi Arabia’s table tennis scene presented a compelling opportunity that Quadri couldn’t resist.
The move underscores the growing global appeal of the sport and the attractiveness of Saudi Arabia as a destination for top-tier talent.
The Nigerian table tennis icon recently showcased his exceptional skills by successfully defending his title in the men’s singles category at the 2023 ITTF African Championships.
In the final match held in Tunisia, Quadri displayed his dominance by defeating Ahmed Saleh of Egypt with a commanding 4-0 victory.
This triumph was particularly significant for Quadri, as it allowed him to create new, positive memories associated with Tunis, given his previous injury during the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games qualification at the same venue.
Reflecting on his latest achievement, Quadri expressed his joy at erasing the painful memory of his past injury in Tunis.
He said, “Winning another title here is good to erase the bad memory. This win will remain with me for a long time. I am happy and I look forward to the next challenge.”
Aruna Quadri has an impressive track record in international table tennis and became the first African player to be ranked in the top 10 globally in 2022.
Notably, he reached the quarter-finals in the Men’s Singles competition at the 2014 World Cup and advanced to the semi-finals of the 2017 ITTF World Challenge Bulgaria Open, where he faced a formidable opponent in the eventual winner, Dimitrij Ovtcharov.
Known for his forehand-oriented playing style that produced numerous winners, Aruna Quadri received recognition from the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) as the Star Player of the Year.
He also played a pivotal role in the Nigerian team that clinched bronze at the 2014 Commonwealth Games.
At the club level, Quadri recently joined forces with TTC RhönSprudel Maberzell Fulda, a prominent club in the German Bundesliga Table Tennis, further solidifying his reputation as a globally respected and accomplished table tennis athlete.
With his move to Khaleej Table Tennis Club in Saudi Arabia, Aruna Quadri is poised to continue making significant contributions to the sport and further expand the horizons of table tennis in the region.
His arrival is expected to elevate the level of competition and inspire emerging talents within Saudi Arabia’s vibrant table tennis community.
