Armwrestling on the Rise: AFA President Lauds Nigeria’s Readiness As Abuja 2025 Gathers Momentum

During an official inspection and visitation program to Nigeria alongside AFA Secretary, Mr. Boumsong Julien, President Asibey, Nigeria Armwrestling President, Engr. Samuel Jackson met with key stakeholders, including the Director General of the National Sports Commission, Hon. Bukola Olopade, and SSA to the President on Grassroots Sports Development and LOC Chairman, Hon. Adeboye Adeyinka (Sir Zulu).

Speaking during the visit, Asibey commended the Nigerian government for its full backing of the championship and commitment to developing armwrestling.

“I am impressed with the level of support from the Nigerian government. This is a clear sign that armwrestling is not only growing but gaining the attention it deserves.

Nigeria is ready. From what we’ve seen on ground — the venues, the accommodations, the planning — we are confident that Abuja 2025 will be one of the best-organized championships Africa has seen,” Asibey said.

He noted that armwrestling is one of the most inclusive and accessible sports on the continent and praised the LOC for their commitment to excellence.

“Armwrestling is easy to participate in and is rapidly growing in Africa. The LOC here is doing an incredible job. The support from the government of Nigeria, especially through the National Sports Commission, is highly commendable. Africa is happy with Nigeria’s level of preparation.”

As a mark of goodwill, President Asibey presented gifts on behalf of AFA to DG Hon. Olopade and the LOC Chairman, expressing appreciation for their support.

The AFA delegation, which arrived on Tuesday, April 8, carried out a full inspection of competition venues and hotel accommodations on Wednesday, April 9, and capped the visit with a courtesy dinner hosted in their honor.

President Asibey departed Nigeria today, reassured and excited about the road to Abuja 2025.
