Nigeria Arm Wrestling Federation President Relishes Visit To Kogi Royal Father

The president of Nigeria Arm Wrestling Federation (NAWF), Engineer Samuel Olatunji Jackson has expressed delight with the reception accorded him on his visit to the Ohinoyi of Ebiraland in Kogi State.

Engineer Jackson said he was elated with the outcome of the trip, which he made in company of other top officials of the federation and 2024 African Games double gold medalist, Sarah Matthew.

The NAWF boss added that it was a courtesy visit to say thank you and solicit for more support from the Ohinoyi, Alhaji Ahmed Anaje, who also earlier hosted Sarah Matthew after the recent Games in Accra, Ghana.

Jackson expressed deep satisfaction and appreciation for the cordial attention he and his delegation received from the Ohinoyi, who he recounted actually wanted them to stay with him in the palace much longer.

The arm wrestling buff disclosed, “The reception was warm. The king was very pleased to see us, and we were very happy to visit him with our gold medalist, Sarah Matthew.

“We came together to the king’s palace because the federation felt it was important to say thank you for how he bestowed on us the honour to support one of our winners.

“This serves as a point to all our athletes in arm wrestling and other sports that, anything you are doing, people see it and can appreciate it.”

Jackson went on to state three major gains that were achieved by the delegation to Okene, especially with regards to gaining support ahead of the world championship this August in Moldova.

He added: “It was worth our coming around, and we felt we will still come around another time. He, in fact, did not want us to go back to our base. He wanted us to wait and felicitate more with him. We would have loved to stay, but we have a lot of things lined up to see the commissioner and chairman of the sports commission.

“Yet, we achieved three things. Two are appreciation from the federation and the visit itself. We also sought more support from Kogi State government and people, especially through His Royal Highness, the Ohinoyi of Ebiraland to Sarah Matthew, and other athletes to attend the upcoming world championship in Moldova.”

Jackson concluded with a hint that the visit was very successful, as he posited: “We are very elated that the Ohinoyi said he will go the extra mile to make sure Sarah Matthew represents Nigeria and Africa at the world championship come August 2024.”
