Rangers’ reign as Scottish Premiership champions is officially over despite winning 4-1 against Ross County on Wednesday night. The Nigerian trio of Joe Aribo, Leon Balogun and Calvin Bassey all featured in the game.
Table-toppers Celtic were held to a 1-1 draw at Dundee United on the same night. Despite this, the gap at the top is now four points with only one game remaining. Rangers who went undefeated and finished with 102 points last season, can no longer retain the title.
Nonetheless, the Gers are still in contention for two trophies this season. They will play in the final of the Europa League against Eintracht Frankfurt on May 18 at the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan Stadium, in Seville, Spain. Rangers saw off Borussia Dortmund, Red Star Belgrade, Braga, and RB Leipzig en route to the final. They will also play in the Scottish Cup final against Hearts three days after the Europa League final.
Aribo, Balogun and Bassey have all been named in Nigeria’s 30-man squad list for friendlies against Mexico (May 28) and Ecuador (June 2).
