The president of Archery Federation of Nigeria, Mohammed Abdullahi has made a fresh call for peace to reign within the sector, as he noted that they cannot make further progress unless harmony returns among all the officials, Sports247 reports.
Abdullahi’s call comes against the backdrop of recent reports about a wave of crisis that disrupted the federation’s annual general assembly, which was marred when many stakeholders were locked out of the venue.
While making an appeal for the return of peace and cooperation within Nigeria’s archery fraternity, Abdullahi recalled the huge gains they have achieved within the spate of seven years, but also warned that all of it may now go down the drain due to the outbreak of disharmony and fractionalisation of the federation.
Abdullahi reminisced: “In Lagos alone, we now have over seven clubs, as well as many in Edo and other states, including Delta and the rest of them.
So, we are spreading the gospel of archery round the country. We have done that over the last seven years, and now this is where we are today.”
He concluded by pointing out that the ill-fated annual general meeting was actually meant to consolidate on all gains achieved so far by the archery federation, which he now fears would end up as nought – unless peace returns to the sector.
“The AGM was to take stock of all these achievements and to also tell ourselves the truth about how we can make further progress. We wanted to say we can do it only if we have peace in the house.
We can move ahead only if we are cohesive and only if we are committed to the duty call. So, this is where we are,” the archery top shot submitted ruefully.
