In a bid to boost the development of archery in Nigeria, President of the Archery Federation of Nigeria, Mohammed Abdullahi, has confirmed that the federation will receive international support from World Archery Africa. According to Abdullahi, trainers from the continental body are set to arrive soon to train Nigerian coaches and athletes, a move aimed at enhancing the technical capabilities and competitive edge of the sport locally.
Addressing concerns over recent criticism directed at the federation for not doing enough to develop archery in the country, Abdullahi outlined a series of proactive steps the federation plans to take. “We are going to have three major championships before the end of the year. The World Archery Africa is going to send in trainers to ensure that they train our athletes and even give training to coaches and officials of the sport.

So these are some of the things that we have in the corner that we are following up. This is just the beginning of the year, the first quarter of the year. We’ve had two activities simultaneously, the AGM and, of course, the National Open Championship,” he said.
The planned championships and training initiatives are expected to serve as a catalyst for the growth of archery in Nigeria, providing both athletes and coaches with the necessary skills and competitive exposure to excel on the international stage. With these strategic measures, the federation aims to not only address past shortcomings but also to pave the way for a brighter future for the sport in the country.
As the federation works closely with World Archery Africa and the National Open Championship has already set a robust tone for the year, stakeholders and fans alike remain optimistic that these efforts will significantly raise the standard of Nigerian archery in the coming years.
