Sports247.ng reports that the Super Eagles winger was cornered for his comments minutes after being confirmed to become compatriot, Victor Osimhen’s successor as APOY, and he used that opportunity to reel out more accolades.

The former Charlton Athletic, Leicester City and Fulham of England star, as well as ex-RB Leipzig of Germany ace, had earlier opened his acceptance speech during the awards ceremony with words of gratitude in Yoruba language.

Not to be seen as merely showboating at that point, the former England youth international, who won the 2017 FIFA U20 World Cup with the Junior Lions, continued his eulogies when caught one-on-one by a reporter outside the venue in Rabat, Morocco.

Lookman declared: “It’s amazing, because I was able to do it with a lot of support from many people back home, and it’s a wonderful day.

“Playing for our nation and having the support of everyone there has been incredible.”

Having netted three goals in helping Nigeria finish second at this year’s Africa Cup of Nations and then hit a hat-trick that gave Atalanta their first ever European title, all odds were staked in his favour to win the gong, but Lookman affirmed that he did not achieve it alone.

“This has been a special year for me; progress has been made. I’m just happy with it, and I want to face the next challenges.

“Thank you very much to all my fans. Your love doesn’t go unnoticed. Thank you all.

“I very much appreciate. Much love,” stressed Lookman, who looked resplendent in a sparkling green Yoruba flowing gown (agbada).
