Nigeria national boxing coach Anthony Konyegwachi has revealed his target for Team Nigeria Boxing heading into the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, England.
The Commonwealth Games will be held from July 28 to August 8, 2022.
9 boxers have been selected to represent Team Nigeria at the 22nd edition of the Commonwealth Games. The team is made up of four men and five women.
Konyegwachi has stated that the team is well prepared for the Games, both technically and strategically.
“I’m going with a total number of nine boxers; five female boxers and four male boxers,” Konyegwachi briefed Sports247.ng at the British High Commissioner’s reception for Team Nigeria in Abuja on Thursday.
“Although I have just four exposed boxers among them. The rest of them are new boxers. But well-talented boxers so I think we are ready for the games.
“I have imparted technical and tactical skills into them. They are very skillful, smart and they are ready to go.”
On his targets for the boxers at the Games, Konyegwachi added:
“We’ll bring the gold medals we can afford to bring back to Nigeria. I’m targeting three gold and maybe two silver and one bronze medal.”
